In 1988, jaya Bachchan wrote a story, Shahenshan, which was a superhit Bollywood film. In 1995, she made a comeback in Marathi film Akka alongside Amitabh Bachchan. Later Jaya appeared in many Bengali and Bollywood films.

At the music launch of the film Drona, she said Hum up ke log Hain isliye Hindi mein baat karenge, Maharashtra ke log maaf kijiye. It was a huge controversy. Later Amitabh Bachchan apologized on her behalf.

There is another controversy on the separation of Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai that Jaya was very strict with Aishwarya Rai and often interfered Aishwarya and Abhishek married life. This interference affects their marital life.

Jaya Bachchan received Padma Shri in 1992 in the field of art. She got the best actress award for Abhimaan in 1974, Filmfare award in 1972 as a special award for uphaar. Jaya Bachchan got the best actress award for Kora kagaz and for Nauker in 1975 and 1980.
